300 JAHRE BUCHDRUCKER IN GLÜCKSTADT.
by Augustin, Heinrich Wilhelm

Limited to 750 numbered copies. Printed French fold and containing tipped-in facsimiles and a profusion of color printed pages showing the diverse printing and design of this old printing house. A festschrift to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the firm. It starts off with a history of the firm followed by a display of the firms exotic type faces. Each is accompanied by a full-page ornamental design in color. The firm was known for publishing works in many languages including Chinese, Hebrew, Greek, Syrian, etc. This copy is from the library of W.P. Jaspert, author of Encyclopedia of Typefaces who has enclosed a type written description "J J Augustin at Glückstadt in Germany was a printer whose business had started in 1632. I believe the firm in the 20th century carried one of the largest selection of exotic typefaces in the world, rivalled only by the Vatican printing office. The book chronicles the history of the firm and its printer".Presentation copy inscribed on front cover to George Grady "a printer who feels what it is about printing With kindest regards, J.J. Augustin, N.Y.C. 5/3/37".
